SIMUEL “BUBBY” BURRELL was born in Apopka, FL on November 9, 1939 to parents, John F. Burrell, Sr. and Rosetta Miller Burrell.
In 1958, Bubby was a member of the first high school graduating class of Phyllis Wheatley - Apopka’s former elementary school.
Bubby embarked on his shoe shining career at the tender age of 8 while working alongside his father, John, Sr. and his brother, John, Jr. at their family owned shoe shine stand/candy store in Apopka, FL. He left Apopka for New York City in 1965, worked as a stock clerk at the New York Stock Exchange and eventually branched off to embark on his entrepreneurial career. Beginning with a shoeshine stand in the Bronx, New York, Bubby eventually owned a record shop, as well as a clothing store, which he christened “ChiKimYaBri” in honor of his four daughters: ChiQuita, Kim, Yolanda and Bridget. His entrepreneurial mindset continued upon his return to Florida as his relationship with all things pertaining to shoes became as natural to him as breathing.
In 1982, his love for working with shoes led him to expand his shoe shine stand to an illustrious shoeshine/shoe repair career in downtown Orlando, that expanded more than four decades, and he trained anyone with an interest in learning the business that he loved so very dearly, along the way.
Bubby rededicated his life to the Lord in 1985 and was the epitome of a good and faithful servant to his community and anyone in need. He visited the incarcerated, delivered the word of God to them and provided the homeless with nutritious food, basic toiletries, clothing and warm blankets.
Bubby transitioned from this earth on November 2nd, 2024 and was proceeded in death by his parents, John F. Burrell, Sr. and Rosetta Miller Burrell; his brother, John F. Burrell, Jr. {Lillie}; sisters: Myrtle Burrell-Brown {Lester}; Yvonne Taylor {Charles};
Gloria Jean McMillon {Leroy} and Gloria Miller; uncles: Harmon {Lansing}, Shelley {Apopka} and Simuel Burrell; aunt and cousin: Leatha Burrell, Ruth Heard {Apopka} and beloved grandson, Cedric D. Lowman {Atlanta}.
