Samuel Norwood Obituary

Samuel Norwood was born on April 3, 1939 in Midnight MS to Ella Luton and Camel Norwood. His father passed away while he was extremely young, forcing the young Sammy and his older brother Willie to quit school so they could work to earn money to help their mother take care for their younger siblings. During this time they learned the value of work and a dollar. He worked with and for work camps where they picked cotton, pecans and fruit. The family later migrated to Florida. After he got older, he took those skills he learned early on and worked as a Migrant worker and ultimately as a Contractor. As a Contractor he organized camps where he had individuals work for and with him doing the very thing he grew up doing in the area of Agriculture. He lived many years in Ruskin, Wachulla and South Florida. He also lead crews in North Carolina picking tomatoes and potatoes (many at that time referred to as maters and taters). Education – 3rd grade after their father pass him and his brothers assume the roll as providers to help their mother take care of their younger sister. Preceded in death by – father, Camel Norwood, mother, Ella Luton, daughter, Aneshia Antwyana Blair, son, Vincent Lee, sister, Betty Jean Luton, and brother, Willie J. Norwood, Sr. Survived by his children daughter Wanda Strong, two sons, James Lee and Samuel Norwood, his brother, BW Norwood (Evelyn), 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
