On April 18, 1937, Marie Jose Madeleine Cadet was born in Jacmel, Haiti. She was the ninth of ten children of Arthur and Fernande Cadet.
She attended an all girls Catholic school for her primary and secondary education.
In 1957, she met Jean Gibossé, a businessman from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Within
six months, Marie Jose’ and Jean were engaged, and they married on April 12, 1958.
In April of the following year, Marie José gave birth to her daughter, Stephane. Four
years later, in 1963, her son, Harold was born.
Marie José went into business with her new spouse and enjoyed working side by side
with Jean. She took pride in providing great customer service to all her clients.
When the political situation began to deteriorate in Haiti in the early ‘60s, Marie
José immigrated to New York with her cousin (and sister), Caroll Nicolas, by her
side. Her hard-working nature enabled her to get accustomed to her new country.
She always told funny stories about her early job experiences.
Marie José always made sure her children had comfortable lives. She loved her family
deeply and sent birthday and holiday cards to family and friends every year. She
enjoyed entertaining in her younger years and regularly invited friends and family
to celebrate birthdays and holidays at her Elbertson Street Apartment. Lots of food
and fun were always on the menu, and dancing was a top priority.
Jean’s sudden death on April 15, 1998 was a very shocking moment for her. at
same year, Marie Jose’ retired and moved back to Haiti. ere she showed signs of
her green thumb. She enjoyed planting trees and owers and turned her yard into a
beautiful garden. She also enjoyed the company of her dogs and cats over the years.
She remained in Haiti for 22 years, traveling to the U.S. yearly to visit family and
friends.
Marie José was a proud Catholic and was very devoted to Saint Anthony. She
traveled several times to Europe with church groups and visited numerous Catholic
churches. She was a generous person who always distributed rosaries and showcased
small statues of Catholic saints at home.
Marie José was diagnosed with cancer in July 2020. She passed away on July 29,
2020 at Advent Health Hospital in Orlando, FL.
Marie José leaves behind; her daughter, Stephane Gibossé, her son, Harold Gibossé,
and his spouse, Mireille Gibossé. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Anthony
Gibossé, Laurence Géhy, Fabrice Géhy, Claudelle Géhy, and her spouse, Christopher
Walker. She also leaves behind: her brother, Jean-Claude Cadet; her sisters, Simone
Duroseau, Gisele Lamarque, Raymonde Dupoux, Camille Nicolas, and Caroll
Nicolas; and her brother-in-law, Luckner Ulysse. She was preceded in death by: her
spouse, Jean Gibossé; her siblings, Gerard Cadet, Edward Cadet, and Joseph Cadet;
and her sister-in-law, Liliane Gibossé Ulysse.
