Obituary

On April 18, 1937, Marie Jose Madeleine Cadet was born in Jacmel, Haiti. She was the ninth of ten children of Arthur and Fernande Cadet.
She attended an all girls Catholic school for her primary and secondary education.
In 1957, she met Jean Gibossé, a businessman from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Within
six months, Marie Jose’ and Jean were engaged, and they married on April 12, 1958.
In April of the following year, Marie José gave birth to her daughter, Stephane. Four
years later, in 1963, her son, Harold was born.

to celebrate birthdays and holidays at her Elbertson Street Apartment. Lots of food
and fun were always on the menu, and dancing was a top priority.
Jean’s sudden death on April 15, 1998 was a very shocking moment for her. at
same year, Marie Jose’ retired and moved back to Haiti. ere she showed signs of
her green thumb. She enjoyed planting trees and owers and turned her yard into a
beautiful garden. She also enjoyed the company of her dogs and cats over the years.
She remained in Haiti for 22 years, traveling to the U.S. yearly to visit family and
friends.
Marie José was a proud Catholic and was very devoted to Saint Anthony. She
traveled several times to Europe with church groups and visited numerous Catholic
churches. She was a generous person who always distributed rosaries and showcased
small statues of Catholic saints at home.
