Leberta Wilson Obituary

Leberta Israel Wilson was born to the late Elsie Belfone and Rush Gates Jr., and a stepchild to the late Clarence (PeeWee) Hall and Bernice Silas Hall, in Jacksonville, Florida, on July 22, 1940. She became a faithful member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, which was co-founded by her great-grandfather, the late Frank R. Israel, along with Walter B. Simpson. Leberta attended Hungerford High School in Eatonville, Florida.

Leberta answered a calling to care for others, dedicating her life to the nursing profession. She began her career at Sunland Hospital before serving as an Emergency Room Nurse at Orlando Regional Medical Center for nearly 30 years. Her compassion never waned—she continued her ministry of healing with VITAS Hospice as a nurse for more than five years.

Leberta exhibited a heart of love and true selflessness. She had great compassion for family, friends, and the Lord. Leberta had a passion for sewing and making doll clothes. She possessed a spirit that attracted people to her, whom she loved very much. She was kind, gentle, and loved life. She put a smile on other people's faces and believed in sharing with others.

Leberta's soul peacefully departed this life on May 25, 2026. Her departure is a deep and personal loss felt by her family and friends; she will be greatly missed by them all.
