Kelvin Sinclair Thompson, Sr was born to Ionie and Neville Thompson on May 12, 1933 on the beautiful island of St. Kitts in the British West Indies. He was the middle of 11 children. At an early age Kelvin was recognized as a jack of all trades and master of most. He was famous for his singing and mastery of many musical instruments, most notably the accordion. His singing could be heard on the local radio, all around the island, and as a member of the Wyclif Crusaders group. He was also a prolific songwriter, penning well over 500 songs. Kelvin married Gloria Amory and they had 7 children. Alongside Pastor William Connor, Kelvin and a few other preachers founded the first Baptist church on the island – the Antioch Baptist Church. He had a zeal for preaching and teaching God’s word. He held Sunday school classes for young men under a huge tree where he grew the class at an exponential rate. As his preaching grew, he went on to found the Basseterre Valley Baptist Church in St. Kitts. When Kelvin had the opportunity to study for his doctorate in Theology in the United States, he moved his family to the US. As a Missionary, he helped to start and preach at several churches in Orlando, Mt. Dora and Fruitland Park areas.
We, his children and family, are grateful for those who knew and loved our dad. We are forever grateful for his instilling in us a love of God. Dad will be dearly missed and we know that he is once again with his wife at rest in their heavenly home, and we will see them again. Kelvin passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his children on October 5th.
