A woman who feared the Lord, Joyce lived with grace, strength, and steadfast devotion. She now rests in His eternal peace, leaving a legacy of love, faith, and hospitality. Those wishing to honor her memory are invited to join her family in celebrating her life at the service details below.
Joyce Robinson (née Copeland) was born August 25, 1965 to the late Fred and Edith Copeland. She was a devoted wife, mother, and a shining example of the Proverbs 31 woman's unwavering strength. Grounded in her faith, she carried the words of Psalm 23 from her heart, finding peace and guidance in its truth: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…” Her life embodied that assurance, as she trusted God's loving provision in every season.
Joyce was the youngest of 12 children and enjoyed interacting with her older siblings. Before she was old enough to attend school, she would cry when her siblings left the house for school. When school was dismissed, Joyce eagerly waited to see her sister Lorraine to return from school. When Lorraine arrived, Joyce would grab her tight and say, "sister you smell like school".
Joyce met and married the love of her life, Oberlee Robinson, in 1985. Their connection was extraordinary—they shared everything and truly lived as one. Joyce was always proud of their union, openly expressing her love and admiration for their close bond. Indeed, Joyce’s greatest earthly love was her husband. Over more than fifty years of marriage, their partnership remained steadfast—a deep, abiding bond forged in mutual devotion and the sacred bond of matrimony. Oberlee understood that Joyce was more than just a partner; she was his rib, his perfect complement, and together they walked hand in hand through life’s joys and trials.
Joyce’s nickname was ‘Jolly,’ and she was affectionately known as ‘Auntie Jolly’ by her nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Her love was expressed most vividly in the everyday rhythms of home. She burned up the kitchen—not with literal flames, but with the blazing passion she brought to cooking—and she was an excellent cook whose perfectly seasoned chitterlings remain a beloved specialty, the aroma still lingering in the warmest memories of her family. Preparing her home for her husband was her favorite pastime; each detail arranged with intention and care, reflecting her nurturing soul.
Joyce’s faith was her foundation. Challenges never defined or oppressed her—rather, she remained steadfast, anchored. She lived intentionally and privately. Her spirit radiated a quiet strength and joy that comforted and inspired those around her.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edith Copeland, and her brothers Richard Stevens, Willie Robert Stevens, and Abraham Copeland.
Joyce’s legacy lives on through those she loved most—her husband of 38 years, Oberlee Robinson, six children: Tiesha Copeland, Shatara Copeland, John Copeland, Shantavoria Robinson, Emmanuel Copeland, Emmeria Copeland. She is also survived by her siblings: Barbara Crawley (Vincent), Jestine Trusty, Katie Stevenson, Lorraine Wright, Lee Andrew Stevens, and Solomon Stevens; Sister-in-law, Tia Robinson; along with several grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
She joins in eternal rest her parents, Fred and Edith Copeland, and her brothers Richard Stevens, Willie Robert Stevens, and Abraham Copeland, whose memories she now shares in heaven.
