Joann M. Porter, a devoted Christian wife and loving mother, peacefully passed away on July 30,2024, after a courageous battle with Lupus that spanned her lifetime. Born on October 17, 1949, in Valdosta, Georgia, Joann was the cherished daughter of Naomi and Calvin McKennon, both of whom preceded her in death. In her early years, she was lovingly adopted and raised by Audrey

Marshall, who she aectionately called her Mother. She spent her formative years in Valdosta, GA attending primary school there before graduating from Miami Northwestern High School in Miami, FL. Joann furthered her education at Florida Memorial College, earning a B.A. in Urban Services and proudly becoming a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Joann's professional journey included impactful roles at Florida State Employment Services, Fulton National Bank, and Kidder Peabody Inc. However, the greatest joy of her life came when she met the love of her life, Leonard Porter. They were united in marriage on November 25, 1977, in Miami, Florida. Together, their journey took them from Atlanta to Virginia, and ultimately to Orlando, Florida, where they became active members of Washington Shores Church of Christ (WSCC) in 1983.

In 1984, their love blossomed as they built their family together. They welcomed their beloved son, Anthony Porter, who would later bring them immense joy as he and Nicole gifted Joann with four wonderful grandchildren: Bailey, Taytum, Braylon, and Amiyah. Joann was a committed and faithful servant of the Lord, teaching Sunday School for over 30 years to primary students in WSCC Junior Worship and leading a life of service through her involvement with the "Women of Purpose." Her unwavering love for God, family, and friends was evident in everything she did. Known for her radiant smile and compassionate spirit, her commitment to serving others shone brightly even during her own struggles with illness. Joann was a pillar of support for her church community, always there to celebrate joyous occasions and oer comfort during diicult times. Joann's boundless love will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she encountered. Joann is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Leonard Porter; her mother, Audrey Marshall; her siblings, Renee Palmer, Anthony Archer, and Betty Keys; her aunts, Wilma Marshall and Stella Pierce (Robert); her uncle, Roy McKennon (Jonnie Mae); as well as her cherished grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. A life dedicated to love, service, and faith; Joann's legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. In our hearts, she will remain forever cherished and deeply missed.
