My name is Dawn and I am a niece of Greg's and his God Daughter. I have so many great stories with my Uncle, it's hard to pick a few! Uncle Greg would lighten whole room with his laughter, heart ,and energy! No one had a laugh like his and talent of being a great storyteller. He had my sister and I believing that cows were Texas elephants. He would take us camping and allow us to climb down cliffs and touch dangerous bugs. We would sit around the fire at night and he would tell us stories of his hunting trips, fishing with our dad, and his many slim escapes from death. He always lived on the edge and being around him got us out of our comfort zone and gave us the courage to try new things in a time in my life when I needed the strength. Uncle Greg was never afraid to be himself and I always admired that in him. In the morning he would make us tiny pancakes he would call "short stacks" so we could say we ate 20 pancakes for breakfast when we got home. My sister and will always remember our camping trips with Uncle Greg and all the life experiences we had. Now my sister and I have our own families. The kids would gravitate right to him and the tradition would pass on. He would tell them all the same stories and make them "short stacks." Uncle Greg had an adventurous spirit that everyone remembers, but more than anything what makes him stand out to me has been his love for his family and friends. He played hard but loved even harder. He worked hard to keep family traditions alive and was always ready for his famous barbecues. I loved gathering at his house with family and chowing down on his famous ribs, prime rib and of course whatever game he had from his last hunting trip. Christmas day will never be the same without him, but with his example we will somehow come together and fight to keep the traditions alive.
