Gloria Camella Thompson (nee Amory) was born to Frances Hanley and Ernest Amory on September 8, 1942, on the beautiful island of St. Kitts in the British West Indies. Gloria was well respected and known for her love of family. She held many important positions in St. Kitts including serving as a stenographer for the Clerk of the High Court. She also served as a top secretary for many government offices including working for Premier Robert L. Bradshaw. When her husband Kelvin had the opportunity to study for his doctorate in Theology in the United States, Gloria made the sacrifice to leave her position and relocate to Florida so that her children had a better opportunity for a college education.
For over 40 years Gloria called Mt. Dora home and made many lasting friendships during that time. She has been a faithful and longstanding member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church where her celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 11:00AM. Public viewing will begin at 10:00AM at the church, which is located at 917 Grant Avenue, Mt. Dora, Florida, 32757.
We, her children and family, are grateful for those who knew and loved our dear Mom. We are forever grateful for her devotion and care for our family, as well as instilling in us a love of God. Though she will be dearly missed, we know that she is at rest in her heavenly home, and we will see her again. Gloria passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2024, in the presence of her family and in the arms of her beloved husband the Reverend Dr. Kelvin Thompson Sr.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 62 years Kelvin Sr.; children – Carmella, Kelvin Jr., Brenda, Judith (Tony), Leza (Cory), and Sonia; Grandchildren – Roderick, Ticoya, Amahri, Amyah, Amana, Joshua, and Rachel; and many great-grandchildren.
