Reflection of Life
“She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without
fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.”
Proverbs 31:25-26
Gladys Mae Lowe was born on October 25, 1933, as she said, but Gladys
was actually born on October 23, 1934. Her life began in Shellman,
Georgia. She was born to the late Wallace Brown and Cleo Thomas.
Gladys was a pillar of her community. Despite not being formally
educated, Gladys was a Master of Life.
Gladys met and married Lonnie Dee Lowe in the early 1950s. Gladys
later relocated to Florida in 1964 with her family. The Lowe family spent
time in Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Apopka, and they finally
called Zellwood home. Gladys was a member of Triumph Church and
later joined Zellwood C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Mother Minnie
Reddick. She fellowshipped at New Life Full Gospel Ministries and The
Faith Center International, but Open Door Sanctuary was home.
Gladys spent her early career working as a Fern Cutter at Marcel Nursery
and then Plymouth Citrus. She then began working at Zellwood Daycare
Center. She spent the majority of her career working at Elder Care, an
assisted living facility in Apopka, Florida. Gladys began working at
Little Tots on the Move in Zellwood, FL; however, her true passion was
cooking. Gladys was an amazing cook, and she took pride in feeding the
community, church, and friends. Gladys opened her doors to anyone in
need. She had a heart of Gold.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Lowe; siblings,
Sammie Lee Thomas, Johnnie Mae Haynes, Mammie Thomas, Cleo
Thomas, and Sarah Evon Green; sons, Lounche Lowe, Eugene Lowe,
Willie B. (John), and Bernard; and grandchildren, Erica Rucker,
