Geoffrey Lewis Obituary

Geoffrey George Lanzo Lewis, 88, of Jamaica, West Indies, was born on March
17, 1936. He was the son of May Lewis and the younger brother of Lorna Lewis.
Geoffrey graduated from Kingston Technical High School and later joined the
Jamaica Ice Company. A passionate table tennis enthusiast, he aspired to represent
Jamaica professionally. His dedication took him across the Caribbean, where he
gained acclaim for inventing the signature move known as the "butterfly."
Geoffrey competed in the prestigious Caribbean Table Tennis Championships
under the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation and was frequently featured
in the Jamaica Gleaner, highlighting his impact on the sport.
He migrated to New York in the early 1960s, where he took on a supervisory role
in the shipping department at Liz Claiborne. In the mid-1980s, Geoffrey was
initiated into Mt. Sinai Lodge #7 under the jurisdiction of Alpha District Grand
Lodge #1, Inc. (NY) of the Independent United Order of Mechanics, Friendly
Society, Western Hemisphere, Inc. Throughout his years of dedicated service,
Venerable Geoffrey of Mount Sinai Lodge #7 earned esteemed titles, including
District Grand Tyler of Alpha District Grand Lodge #1, NY, and Venerable Past
Grand Master of the Alpha College of Past Grand Masters. Geoffrey deeply
cherished the sense of community and commitment to service that came with being
a part of the Order of Mechanics.
In the early 2000s, Geoffrey and Shirley Overton met at The Lodge, where they
fell in love and began their journey together. The two married and moved from the
Bronx, NY, to settle in Apopka, Florida, where they lived together for over 20
years. Geoffrey and Shirley shared countless memories, creating a warm and
welcoming home for all who knew them.
In heaven, Geoffrey joins his parents, sister and his beloved wife, Shirley Lewis.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Michele and Kimberly Lewis; two
stepsons, Steven and Colin; and 10 grandchildren. Geoffrey found his greatest joy
in his family, friends, and unwavering faith, and he will be profoundly missed by
all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
