Dontavis Haney Obituary

Dontavis A. Haney was born on November 24, 1986, to Mr. Donald Haney and the late Ms. Ethel Mae Law. Dontavis was the third child, the oldest boy, and the oldest of the set of twins. He was a happy, playful, chocolate baby with a head full of black hair, who was his mother’s pride and joy. As a young child, he was often seen playing by himself. He learned to walk at six months of age and talked soon thereafter.

Dontavis was raised in Pine Hills. He attended the Rocking Horse Academy, Mollie Rae Elementary, Meadowbrook Middle, and Maynard Evans High School. As a teenager, Dontavis was his siblings’ “Big Baby’’ and “Gentle Giant”. Only the ones close to him were able to see that side of him. As a young man, Dontavis embraced fatherhood at the age of 21. The birth of his kids brought him the greatest joy; a proud papa bear he was. After becoming a father, he began working in the construction industry to support his family.

While attending Orange County Public Schools, he bonded and created brotherly connections that remained solid, even to this present day. Dontavis then became affectionately known as “Stank” all around the city. Everyone knew how much Dontavis thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as spending time with his close friends. “Stank” and his homeboys enjoyed relaxing, cruising, listening to his favorite jams, eating, and just having a good time in true “Stank” fashion!

Dontavis was a very caring son, a loving brother, a faithful father, an attentive uncle, a one-of-a-kind nephew, and a loyal friend. He had an amazing, infectious smile, a bubbly personality, and a huge heart of gold that made him that much more contagious to be around. When Dontavis loved you, he not only told you, but he genuinely showed you.

Late in the midnight hour on June 28, 2021, the twenty-sixth Monday of the year, Dontavis was called to eternal rest. He is resting ever so peacefully with his paternal grandparents, the late Mr. John Robert and Mrs. Fannie Haney, his maternal grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Inez Law, and his beloved mother, the late Ms. Ethel Mae Law. He was also preceded in death by two aunts, Emily Sheffield and Altheria Shuler, and five uncles, Walter Law, James Edward Law, Benjamin Law, Johnnie Law, and Calvin Law.

Dontavis’ legacy shall continue and live on through his five children, La’Destini Haney, Dontavis Haney, Jr., Danejah Haney, Bre’Yana Haney, and Jor’Dyn Haney.

Dontavis leaves to cherish his cemented memories with the following family and other loved ones: his wife, Brittany Anderson; his beloved father, Donald Haney of Apopka, FL; his three loving sisters, Rochelle Wallace (Darrell) of Apopka, FL, Kutante Law of Orlando, FL, and Deidra Haney of St. Cloud, FL; his two brothers, Mark Law and Brian Haney, both of Orlando, FL; his four aunts, Algerine Battle, Cairlin Carn (William), Mary Law, and Essie Jones; his four uncles, Floyd Law (Elvira), Lloyd Law, Jr. (Georgia), Ernest Law, and David Law (Essie); his Godfather, Ben Henderson; Godmother Andrea Brinson; his special companion, Sade Burney; and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
