Denzel Barthelus Obituary

Our precious Denzel, "Denz", will forever be remembered as an extremely intelligent, curious, caring and funny kid. He was an outburst of Joy. He liked to refer to himself as "Super Denzel 2.0", and like most 7 year-olds, he loved his super-hero characters. Denzel was born on April 1, 2014, to his loving parents, Wendy and Amanda Barthelus. He leaves to mourn his memory, his parents, Wendy and Amanda; brother, Giannis; Grandparents, Courtney & Orleen Smith, Pierre Barthelus & Claunie Marie Gaston. Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Words cannot adequately express the extent of our loss and the unspeakable grief of his passing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a true super-hero kid.

More than anything, Denz was exceptionally bright and studious for a child of his age. He recognized each letter of the alphabet by his first birthday and read his first book, The Cat in The Hat, from coverto-cover at age 18 months. His hunger for learning new things never stopped. He was a voracious reader who also loved math and he could oftentimes be found quietly writing his multiplication tables without anyone prompting him to do so. He loved to explore the world around him and also found comfort in the arts. He showed signs of his artistic talents at an early age that revealed his love for music. Denzel was a showman, with his playful singing and dancing. He spoke with precision and with clear diction. His life held such great promise.

Denzel's personality was one of calm, empathy and love. He was so excited when he became big brother to Giannis. The outpouring of love that he had for Giannis was clear and the bond between them was strong and unbreakable. They were inseparable - like two peas in a pod. He enjoyed reading to his brother. In such a short period of time, Denzel touched so many lives with his bright spirit and calming personality and his love for learning.
