David McDuffie Obituary

David Jethro McDuffie “DJ” aka “The Hog Man” was born on September 28, 1943, in Twin Lake, Florida to John and Armenda McDuffie.

At an early age, he and his family moved to Mt. Dora, Florida. Once he reached adulthood he began working at Ralston Purina, where he later retired and went into business for himself. He then began a farm and eventually a landscaping business where he continued until his retirement in 2017. David always had a big smile on his face, and always made you laugh, as he was the life of the party.  While in his teens his family became faithful members of Greater St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Dora, Florida under the Headship of Rev. A.L. Russel where he began serving as a Junior Deacon and eventually serving as the Chairman of the Deacon board for over 30+ years. He then was called into Ministry where he served faithfully beside the current Pastoral headship of the Rev. Dr. Bartell Coleman Sr. But, most of all David loved to sing, while also serving in the Greater St. Mary choir, where he was a song leader for many years, singing selection favorites as, “Jesus will fix it,” “Rapture,” and his favorite “Hang on in there,” in which he said, “I love singing that song because, I always wanted to encourage people that no matter what you’re going through, hang in there because Jesus will always be there to get you through your circumstance.” The Lord in his infinite wisdom had allotted the time of rest for David to be called home with him in glory, on February 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. David was loved by many and his departure is a deep and hard loss to his friends and family and he will be missed by all.

David was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings except for the last one, his loving brother John McDuffie III, whom everyone knows that they were as close as close can be, and also his stepson Darryl Lavender.

David leaves to cherish his precious memories: His loving and devoted wife of altogether 52 years, Gwendolyn L. Lavender-McDuffie, His children: Debria Quattlebaum, David McDuffie Jr. (Louise), Kenneth McDuffie (Cherry), and Stepdaughter Carissa Seaton (Mykal), 1 Brother: John McDuffie III, Grandchildren: Jessica Delva, Jynette McGriff, Jalisa Quattlebaum, Johnna Quattlebaum, Deana McDuffie, Diaunte McDuffie, Zyre McDuffie, Maiya Taylor, Kenneth McDuffie Jr., Dae’yonna McDuffie, Delainey Chloe-Sky, Israel Green, Malachi Seaton, Dana Washington, Maleek Lavender, Darryl Lavender Jr., Jasmine Lavender, and Kendal Lavender and a host of Great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
