Charlie Mae Harris

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”

                Charlie Mae Sims Harris, 84, of Palatka passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Putnam Community Medical Center.

                Charlie Mae was born July 19, 1936 in Sanford, Florida to parents Charlie Sims and Rachel Jones Sims. She was a graduate of Bethune Cookman College with a degree in Elementary Education. She lived a beautiful life in Palatka for 59 years.  She was a devoted woman of God and was a Member of the Usher Board and Deaconess Ministry at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.  She was a Gideon Member and the Treasurer of the Barragan Tri-County Seniors. She worked as a Elementary School Educator for 34 years where she was awarded Teacher Of The Year (James A. Long Elementary School). She was an avid fan of local sports  and really enjoyed supporting Coach Chief Harris and the athletes who called her Mama Harris because she was a MOTHER to everybody. She loved playing golf with her husband and conducting Prayer Meeting and Bible Study  Services for over 24 years faithfully with her husband. Charlie Mae was a loving and beautiful person with a wonderful soul and will be truly missed.

                She was preceded in death by her parents, (Sisters) Beatrice Sims Payne, Ivey Walker, Margaret Johnson, Geraldine Jordan, (Brothers) Charlie Sims Jr., Phillip Sims, Richelle Smith & James Toy, (Sister-in-laws) Rosa Lee Hill (Thomas), Cilla Mae Schofield (Willie B.), Geneva Lightsey (Moses), Ann Harris, (Brother-in-laws) James Harris, Henry Harris (Alberta), Lester Harris (Deloris), and Thomas Hasty.

                Charlie Mae is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Nathaniel Harris, her son Lindsay Harris of Port Arthur, TX, Her Daughter Sharon Harris Johnson of Kingsland, GA, her son Ronald Harris of Palatka, FL, her son Jamie Harris of Milledgeville, GA, Daughter-in-law Yolanda Harris of Milledgeville, GA, Daughter-in-law Bennetta Harris of Palatka, FL and Son-in-law Ronald Campbell of Port Arthur, TX. Her sister Edna Sims of Orlando, FL Sister-in-law Irene Hasty and Brother-in-law Charlie Harris Jr. Grandchildren Dr. De’Netta Harris, Deja Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Tray Daniels, Anica Harris, Jawan Leon, Skye Harris, & Great Grandchild Noel Williams, and a host of cousins nieces, nephews, friends and church family.
