Alvaranga Walters (Alva) was born on September 13, 1940, in Clarendon, Jamaica to Isadora Lawrence and Theobald Fearon. In 1958, Alva became a mother when she gave birth to her first son, Linford Martin. In 1962, she gave birth to her second son, Neville Ellis. In 1965, she met and fell in love with Leonard Walters and were married in 1967. From that union produced four other children: Barrington Walters, Carol Walters, Evadnie Walters and Beverly Walters. Alva migrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. There she worked as a Dietary Aide at several hospitals while raising her children. She retired from Boston Medical Center in 1985. She was a dedicated worker, who was never late for work and was always the last one to leave after her shift was completed. She took pride in the cleanliness of her work environment and was recognized for her culinary skills. Staff and patrons at Boston Medical Center raved about her chicken salad and brown stew chicken. Alva enjoyed many activities. She loved cooking and entertaining family and friends. She looked forward to family gatherings where her food will be enjoyed by all. She was renowned for her delicious turkey wings, her oxtails and her rice and peas. Alva had a love for music, and she enjoyed watching gospel shows and concerts. One of her very favorite things to do was people watching and she was especially drawn to birds. Alva also enjoyed outings in her community and watching games shows. In her younger days, she relished crocheting and dancing. Alva was kind and giving of herself and she always had a chair at her table for strangers. She was an impeccable dresser; especially when she was attending church functions. Her favorite color was red. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the simple things of life. This outstanding attribute enabled her to laugh with others as well as laugh at herself. Alva, who had begun her spiritual journey in Jamaica was a devoted Christian. In 1978, she became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy located in Roxbury, Massachusetts. In her later years she became a member of Gladtidings House of Prayer for All Nations in Boston. In 2018, she relocated to Ocoee Florida from Boston where she was cared for by her daughters. Ms. Alva Walters departed this life in exchange for an eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 13, 2023, after suffering from Alzheimer’s. Inspire of this dreadful and debilitating disease she never lost faith in God. It was her faith in God that sustained her in difficult times. She prayed daily that God would continuously comfort her and take her to eternal peace. During the passage Alva was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She will be deeply missed. Alva treasured her loved ones and embraced every moment she spent with them. She was preceded in death by her father, her mother, her twin brother, and her youngest sister. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: Leonard Walters, her 6 children, 22 grandchildren, 22 great grands, a brother, a sister, several nieces, and nephews. Her love and kindness to her family, relatives and friends can never be forgotten and will live in all our hearts forever.
